PREHISTORY: MY FIRST AND NOT LAST CLIL UNIT.
I love history and geography, so I decided to make a CLIL unit based on one topic of these amazing subjects: prehistory for the 1st year of ESO. In this school year students study the Palaeolithic, the Neolithic and the Bronze and Iron Ages. In my unit we are going to study the different lifestyles and the art that people created at that period.
The main objectives of this unit are:
- To know who Charles Darwin was and his natural selection theory.
- To recognize the family tree of the hominids.
- To understand the evolution process.
- To know how people lived in the Paleolithic, Neolithic and Bronze and Iron Ages.
- To recognize different tools from the different periods.
- To recognize the Art in these Prehistory periods.
The unit is divided in 9 sessions, and the students are mainly going to work in pairs and in groups. If it was possible, it would be very interesting visiting the Archeological Museum in Alcoy, la Sarga and Beneito Cave; they are very near and a school trip would be perfect in order children learn about prehistory.
1st session Discovering the period and Charles Darwin
First, we are going to establish the period that we are studying; therefore, we are going to draw a timeline using www.dipity.com.
There is a lot of information about this important scientist; we are going to use different videos and presentations to look for information about him:
The last task is to interview Charles Darwin, then, students are going to complete a questionnaire and finally they are going to prepare the interview.

We are going to continue learning about Neolithic and Paleolithic looking at some vocabulary: https://quizlet.com/subject/prehistory/ Here, students will find flashcards about the topic.
In this session and with all the material, students are going to prepare a game like Who wants to be a Millionaire? . First, we are going to watch a video to help us with this task; then they will prepare the questions and we play the game.

Do you like Art? In this session we are studying the art in the Paleolithic and Neolithic. We are going to start looking for photos on the Internet and looking for information about the most representative art of those periods. After this session, students have to prepare a presentation where they will have to explain what they have found and the main characteristics of the prehistory art. They are going to visit: http://museodealtamira.mcu.es/
After this session, we are going to do the school trip to La Sarga, Beneito Cave and the Archaeological museum in Alcoy.
